Forgot it was a yankee house...no basements down here, some north of us in the hills...

We have Goodman, Trane, York, Carrier, and Lennox on our stores, course this is all commercial and they all give about the same service, although the Tranes seem to do a better job of cooling for the same tonnage....Goodman easier to get parts for and cheaper than the others as you have to be a franchised dealer to get parts on the other brands...I have a 3 ton Goodman in Bogalusa on an 1800SF 70 year old, not so well insulated house...it would pull down and cycle on the 100F days this summer...had to change a relay on the air handler, 3years old now...would add another unit and insulation, but have it on the market...

1800 sq ft, but like you, we have a "North Carolina Room" 10' X 30' that has three walls that are all windows. Insulating glass, and 2 x 6 walls packed with insulation. The old 2 ton unit just couldn't quite handle it in extreme heat or extreme winter cold. This baby seems to be just idling. And seems to be running about half as long as the old unit. I can't wait to see the first couple of month's electric bills....

RE: Rusty..ac question

No ducts in attic. All ducts in basement. I suspect you're right with the first...the A coil is wet and the air rushing past it is picking up the water. I measured the humidity at the air vent.,..that's where it registers high humidity. In the house generally, the humidity is about 35% which is where it's suppose to be. I just could explain why the high humidity at the vent. The motor is a variable speed ...I'm not sure what that means except I hear it spool up and spool down on start and stop. I think it also varies its own speed depending on the need.
The whole unit is new, coil, lines, outside unit.

RE: Rusty..ac question

2 things maybe...1st suspect, the evaporator coil is covered with condensate and the air blowing through it is picking up moisture and sending thru the ducts, this is normal...make sure condensate pan at evaporator is draining free and not holding water and also slow your fan speed down, should be a 3 speed motor on the blower, red is normally the high speed tap and moving air across coil too fast....2nd suspect ducts are picking up moisture from attic due to leakage in ducts...

I'm assuming when you changed the outside condenser you matched it with a new evaporator coil....if not, you gonna have poblems

Rusty..ac question

Installed a new Trane XL15i 15 SEER, 3 ton. Seems to work fine except runs all the time for about 4 hours when the sun is out and it's 89 out. It does keep the house at 75 or 74 and about 35% humidity.
Messing with my Mannix thermometer/humidstat gismo...I get about the same temp and humidity away from the registers. At the register, I get about 50 degrees coming out and about 68 going in at the return register.
Here's the question....at the coming out register (ac ed air), the humidity registers aboutr 75%. Super humid air coming into the room from the register. The Mannix Sam990DW isn't wrong..how come the humid air?
